The State of Programming / Coding Education
The current state of coding education is poor. Throughout colleges, universities, boot camps, and online learning, the method is speed and condensing information at the cost of learning. You are taught a fundamental concept with a basic example then shortly thereafter asked to complete a complex assignment loosely related to the concept involving the need to seek extensive information outside of the course content. Typical instructors are good programmers who rarely are good teachers so they offer little to no help in the learning journey leaving students to become discouraged with programming. They implicitly nudge you to learn like they did - figure it out yourself - as most of them were self taught. This is antithetical to the idea of an instructor led course. This leads to extensive stress, cheating via any available tool, massive study outside of course content, or just qutting altogether.
The Dean Greer Difference
Mindset is the most important facet in your approach to anything in life and that is where I begin. My positive, unrelenting demeanor sets the stage for us to develop strategies toward creating a learning partnership. I not only teach you how to code but how to approach coding with the right mindset.
I am a teacher first and a programmer second so my focus is on guiding you through the material at your own pace with a quality linear progression so that you learn things in the right order and learn them fully while also gaining the ability to apply the knowledge.
Repetition is the mother of skill so we immerse in the information, studying it in detail and repetition instead of popping into a topic for two minutes then moving on. My courses offer a quality progression where knowledge builds upon itself and every exercise given is based on material covered in the course.
As a tutor, I fill in the large gaps in the course you're taking and give you the information that your instructor didnt give you that you are now being tested on. As we go through your course content I can tell you what is relevant and what is not as you continue your programming journey. We can dive into concepts fully to create a bridge from the basic examples given to the complex assignments. Rely on me to help you ace your course so you don't have to resort to cheating or quitting.
